Dealing with Loss and Grief

“Now is your time of grief, but I will see you again and you will rejoice, and no one will take away your joy.”
--John 16:22

Your grieving will likely take many stages. When you began caregiving for your loved one, you had to face the fact that they were probably never again going to be the same parent, spouse or child they were before the caregiving. That realization gave you cause to grieve the loss of your loved one as you knew him or her.

Caregiving for someone who may have a changed attitude or affect because of a worsening condition is difficult. You love the person they were. The person they are becoming may not be quite as lovable, and even as you grieve your loss, you are faced with caring for a changed person.

You may not fully be able to move through all the stages of grief at this time.
